What is PENDING DELETE?

A domain name is placed in PENDING DELETE status for a period of 5 calendar days, if it has not been restored during the Redemption Period upon which it will be totally lost from the registry. In such cases, domain names maybe lost to squatters. See Wikipedia: Domain Squatters. This status applies to expired domains that are not renewed in time.
